Red birch tea box
Well, I got up early today and went down to the workshop and began working on the red birch tea box. If youll remember, it looked like this when I started it:
Now it looks like this:
Some woods turn better than others and red birch is one that is absolutely made for wood turning. It has a fine, closed-cell grain and it hold detail well and it cuts across the grain well too.
The top and bottom are made out of Brazilian cherry, another great wood to work with, and it has the added bonus of smelling like bath soap when its being turned. It also has a fine grain that cuts well and the color looks great with a variety of woods.
Im still hollowing out the bowl and Ill be posting photos about that, along with sanding and finishing photos later this week. This also is going to be a present for someone special. : )
More later,
VW
